New barbecue festival announced for Bristol

We’re all fired-up for SmokeFest, landing in the city this summer…

If barbecue, bourbon and music is your thing (and it really should be), you’ll be wanting to pop this fiery new festival in the diary. SmokeFest, which will land at the Tobacco Factory this summer, will see some of Bristol’s best barbecue chefs take the helm of some serious hardware.

Organised by Claire and Rob Dacey, founders of street food biz Smoke Catering, the festival will be attended by some top Bristol food names like Asado, Tasty Ragga, Sosij, Bun Fiction (with their deliciously dirty vegan fare), chef Phil James, and Pearly King Cakes. You’ll be able to get your hands on smoked brisket, eight-hour beef short ribs, pulled pork and smoked sausages, as well as loads of veggie options. These lot are seriously creative; they’ll even be smoking mashed potato for the occasion.

The festival will also include the unveiling of Southern Smokers, a new venture from Rob and Claire. Having been keeping it all under wraps until now, the pair have told us they’ve been developing and testing a Texas-style off-set smoker, inspired by their own 12-foot beast but small enough for home cooks to use in their gardens. (Details will be coming soon on a competition to win one – now wouldn’t that be a nice arrival in time for summer?)

On top of all that culinary excitement, you’ll be able to enjoy the party vibes with live music and DJs as you sip on a bourbon cocktail (um, yes please) and work up the nerve to try out some of the chillies and hot sauces on offer.

Best of all, the festival is free to enter. To keep up with further announcements, follow Smoke Catering on Twitter.
