31 October this year has long been set in the political calendar as the day which will see the UK leave Europe (although your guess is as good as ours as to what will actually go down). It’s also just been chosen by Josh Eggleton and his team at The Pony and Trap as the date they will host their ‘Remain’ event, celebrating the best dishes and ingredients from the Continent with a six-course dinner.
It’s a chance not only to showcase some iconic European ingredients but to give credit to the European cuisine that has so strongly shaped the UK’s own food.
“I was influenced by European cooking right from the start,” says Josh. “I love European culture and I love the produce that we get from the talented producers all over the Continent and that’s what this dinner is aiming to celebrate and give credit to.”
The menu will feature the likes of Pyrenean milk-fed lamb, Iberico pork, shellfish from the South of France and European cheeses.
“It’ll be a unique evening here as our menus champion local and regional produce but I felt this was something worth highlighting on this date in particular,” continues Josh.
“What I’d really love to see is restaurants up and down the country holding a dinner on this date to also celebrate Europe’s incredible larder.”
