British Dal Festival returns

Give peas a chance. And beans, and lentils…

The British Dal Festival is back for 2020, once again throwing the spotlight on versatile, health-giving and arguably underloved lentils, beans and peas.

Bristol, as in previous years, will be the beating heart of the celebrations – which run from 21-31 March – and restaurants across the fair city will be getting in on the pulse-based action.

From hidden gems like Castle Farm in Midford to vegan outfits such as Eat Your Greens and Suncraft, tapas joints like Bar 44 to boozers like The Bank Tavern, a whole spectrum of food and drink business will be cooking up special dal-inspired dishes for the occasion, collectively forming the Dal Trail.

This month’s instalment of St Nick’s Night Market (27 March) will be a dal special, too, with lots of the street food vendors getting in on the pulse-based action alongside stalls selling dal ingredients. There will also be cookery demonstrations from the likes of Jenny Chandler and Kalpna Woolf and Bollywood dance classes to check out and activities for the little ones like rangoli painting.
