Tired of your routine shop at the mega-chain supermarket where you find yourself picking up the same items each visit? I don’t know about you, but I can be guilty of filling my basket with the same staid penne pasta, a pesto of generic make, a box of earl grey and a milk chocolate bar from mass producers.
Despite my best efforts to eat locally and shop creatively, I find that after a particularly long day, my brain turns to mush and I feel everything but inspired while picking up dinner at my local. That’s why Flavrbox’s tasting box is a godsend.
Offering us a novel approach in discovering delicious products – think of it as having a personal shopper who’s sole purpose is to find you fantastic new food and drink goods – the online food and drink marketplace has set up a system where each month, they send you a mystery box of five to six hand picked products to try (hopefully for the first time). The box comes with a pamphlet filled with notes on the producers, what their story is and suggestions on how to serve. They also throw in some surprise free gifts in there, so look out. We received our box last week and it was packed with goodies like speltotto (risotto made with spelt rather than rice) from Sharpham Park, a miniature fudge selection from Fudge Kitchen, and an organic celery-seed salt from Halen Mon. Everything in there was indeed new to me and I must say, I’m now addicted to speltotto – and what a fun name!
You can sign up for a whole year of tasting boxes at £16 a month, a 6 month period for £18 a month, or do it on a month by month basis for £20. Each plan offers free delivery and the option to change your delivery address at any time. The box is shipped out the third week of every month. If you don’t like the box, you can get a full refund, or receive replacements for specific items.
