The Ivy Clifton Brasserie launches birthday giveaway

With a birthday that happens to land on Balloon Fiesta season, The Ivy Clifton Brasserie is celebrating turning two in rather apt style...

Last week saw the installation of a mini hot air balloon at this Clifton restaurant's bar – a two-metre-wide, helium-filled acrylic balloon, suspended mid-air and carrying a basket of envelopes.

The deal with this bad boy is that it’ll be lowered on weekday evenings, with everyone dining from the set menu between 4pm and 7pm getting to pull out a card from the basket for the chance to win a gift. Meals at the brasserie are among the prizes, as are treats from the ss Great Britain and Bristol Blue Glass.

On the aforementioned set menu (which you can see here) you'll find the Aviation cocktail (£9); created especially for the occasion, it's made from Monkey 47 gin, marashino liqueur, Briottet violette liqueur and fresh lemon juice. Delicately sour and with a sherbety edge, it will get that apetite well and truly whetted for the meal ahead. Speaking of which, that might include a starter of pork, apple and peppercorn terrine, followed by creamed mushroom and duck, and dessert of strawberry panna cotta. (Two courses will set you back £16.50, and three is £21, just FYI).

The balloon and its basket of prizes is sticking around for six weeks, until 14 September.
